Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – Istituto di Informatica e Telematica (CNR)

The Italian National Research Council (CNR) is the main public research organization of Italy. The CNR consists of one hundred of different research institutes that cover from human sciences to engineering ones. The CNR has about four thousand researchers. The Pisa Research Area is one of the biggest among the CNR research areas and hosts eight research institutes. In particular, the Institute of Informatics and Telematics (IIT-CNR) performs research in pervasive computing and communication, computational mathematics and systems and network security. The institute has also an outstanding capability on administrating ICT services and research projects; in particular it acts as the registry of the “.it” Internet domain (with financial contracts yearly with 2500 ISPs) and is one of the partners of the EURid consortium that manages the “.eu” registry. The Information Security (IS-IIT) group in the Pisa Research Area of CNR performs research and development activities on dependable and secure distributed systems. It consists of about 20 members ranging from Ph.D. students and researchers to software engineers and three associate university researchers. The main research activities involve network and systems security, formal analysis based on specification languages, PKI & trust management, policies and enforcing mechanisms. The group has a relevant experience on running national and EU projects.

Contribution within the Consequence project

CNR is the leader of WP2 and its main contribution will be in modelling and evaluating security policies. In particular:

• Defining new suitable policy languages with formal semantics

• Defining refinement mappings from high level data agreements to low level requirements

• Defining analysis methodologies for high-level policies

Other activities will include:

• contribution to the architecture (WP1) and other R&D WPs (WP3-4)

• testing of the test bed implementation (WP5-6) CNR will play one of the most significant roles in the Dissemination activity as well as contribute to the Exploitation.
